Anthony Gordon has made no secret of his desire to compete at the top levels of professional football.
And he will undoubtedly get the opportunity to do so after Newcastle United agreed to a £70 million agreement with Barcelona on Thursday. Gordon is presently in Catalonia, finishing the last details of a relocation that should be finalized within days.

Anthony Gordon hints toward 2024
In actuality, few Newcastle supporters have lamented his impending departure on social media. This is a long cry from the fury and venom that made the Isak case the most terrible drama of last summer.
Gordon scored just three Premier League goals from open play between January 2025 and the end of the most current season. His best performance with the Magpies came in 2023-24, when he scored 28 goals and was named the club’s player of the season.
At the height of his success, Gordon met with Manchester United icon Gary Neville. Looking back on his statements, it’s hardly surprising that the 25-year-old is looking for other pastures.
“I want to win trophies, first and foremost,” Gordon stated. “I believe that is everyone’s dream. That goes without saying, but I personally want to be at the absolute top.
“Whatever that looks like, I probably couldn’t tell you straight now. But I believe that comes with winning trophies, consistently scoring, assisting, and rushing like I do. Running is a huge element. Usually, when I run a lot, I play well.
David Hopkinson is always open to sales
Newcastle CEO David Hopkinson openly stated in March that no “Isak-like scenario” will occur on Tyneside again. He told reporters, “We are considering what players might or might not want to do this summer.”
“But if an Isak-like scenario occurs again, any player under contract will leave on our terms, and we will take advantage of any opportunities that may arise for the club.” Going forward, our goal will be to acquire and sell smartly.”
While acknowledging the Magpies must “sell well”, Hopkinson refused to be drawn to particular names. At the time, there was more speculation about Sandro Tonali than Gordon.
“We are not ready to answer that,” Hopkinson said when asked which players will go. “We must assess our current situation and identify opportunities in the market. What I will say is that we plan to be as diligent, engaged, smart, and proactive as possible.”
