Alejandro Garnacho could be heading for a surprise summer exit from Chelsea, with River Plate reportedly making contact over a potential move for the Argentina international.
The winger joined Chelsea from Manchester United last summer in a deal worth around £40 million, hoping for a fresh start after his fallout with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
However, his time at Stamford Bridge has not gone according to plan, reports GOAL.
Garnacho has struggled to secure a consistent starting role during a difficult season for Chelsea.
Although he has managed eight goals and four assists in 37 appearances across all competitions, his Premier League numbers have raised concerns.
The 21-year-old has scored just once in 20 league matches, with much of his attacking return coming in domestic cup competitions.
River Plate make contact as Chelsea consider Garnacho loan
According to reports from Argentina, River Plate boss Eduardo Coudet has personally contacted Garnacho to discuss a possible transfer.
The Argentine giants are believed to be exploring whether a summer deal can be arranged.

Chelsea are reportedly open to allowing Garnacho leave on loan for one season, giving him the chance to rebuild confidence and rediscover his best form away from the pressure of the Premier League.
Still, several obstacles could complicate the move.
Garnacho’s wages may prove too expensive for River Plate, while his known links to Boca Juniors could also make a switch to their fierce rivals controversial.
