Jose Mourinho Holds Discussions With Real Madrid Hierarchy Over 21-Year-Old Midfielder

Real Madrid  making a concerted attempt to get a major figure in the midfield who can add creativity, consistency, and control to the team.

Enzo Fernandez is one of the club’s main goals in that regard, but Chelsea is expecting a cost far beyond €100 million for the player, making the transaction tricky.

A second practical possibility has surfaced in recent days, one that Jose Mourinho is said to prefer. Mateus Fernandes, a 21-year-old midfielder for West Ham, is the player in question.

Internal negotiations were held.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s latest update, Real Madrid’s higher management and Jose Mourinho met last night to discuss the project, next season’s ideas, and transfer decisions.

Mateus Fernandes was one of the names mentioned at the meeting, as the club and management deliberated on his signing.

The talk boiled down to Real Madrid’s interest in him, particularly from Jose Mourinho, who holds high regard for him.

While this is true, he is not the only name on Real Madrid’s list of midfield reinforcements, and as a result, there are currently no concrete conversations.

A steep price.

Signing Fernandes from West Ham will not be a cheap operation, especially given the Premier League side’s asking price of €90 million for the talented midfielder.

The 21-year-old star’s current deal with Real Madrid extends until 2030, giving West Ham an advantage in any discussions because they have entire control over his future.

Arsenal and Manchester United are both interested in his services and are considered Real Madrid’s main rivals in this regard.

Needless to say, the scenario might escalate into a bidding war.
