José Mourinho will sign two-year contract to become Real Madrid manager, with the option to extend based on results.
Mourinho is now poised to be officially named as the next Madrid manager, following the conclusion of Benfica’s season.
The Lisbon club defeated Estoril 3-1 on Saturday to finish the Portuguese league season undefeated. Despite the achievement, Mourinho’s Benfica finished third in 2025-26, after Porto and Sporting CP, and will lose out on the Champions League following season.
According to widespread rumors, Mourinho has reached a verbal agreement to become Madrid manager and will be officially confirmed as such once Los Blancos’ domestic season concludes at home to Athletic Club on Saturday—as long as Florentino Pérez is re-elected president.

According to AS, Mourinho’s contract is for two years, but if he wins La Liga, it will automatically be extended for another year.
According to Sky Sports, Mourinho plans to bring four coaches from Benfica to Real Madrid.

Mourinho has yet to declare his decision to transfer to Madrid, holding his cards close to his chest in recent days.
However, following Benfica’s season-ending game at the weekend, Mourinho stated that he has a contract extension offer on the table from Benfica club president Rui Costa, while conceding that Madrid is an option.
“It depends on the offer and what they [Real Madrid] want from me,” he told reporters.
“We aren’t talking about one euro more or less. It depends on whether I am in a position to accomplish what they suggest. I want to have my own time to chat and decide what is best for myself.
