Alonso Makes Decision On Chelsea Vacant Managerial Job

Xabi Alonso is reportedly willing to take over at Chelsea this summer despite rumours that he is interested in joining Liverpool.

The Spaniard is on the radar as the Blues look for a long-term replacement for Liam Rosenior after he left Real Madrid in January.

Chelsea and Alonso’s representatives have started talking. The 44-year-old is excited about the prospect, according to The Athletic as reported by Liverpool Echo.

Rosenior, who took Enzo Maresca’s place at Stamford Bridge for just 106 days, paid the price for a terrible run of performance that is certain to keep Chelsea out of the Champions League.

However, it doesn’t appear that Alonso’s interest in the Stamford Bridge position has declined.

The London club’s confirmation of the former Liverpool player as their top choice is still far from certain, though.

Six Managers On Chelsea Radar

Alonso, Cesc Fabregas, Oliver Glasner, Filipe Luis, Andoni Iraola, and Marco Silva are among the six names on the shortlist.

At the end of the season, Glasner will leave Crystal Palace, the UEFA Conference League finalists. Despite the possibility of leading Bournemouth into the Champions League, Iraola is also departing this summer.

As of now, Chelsea’s top choice for the position is still up in the air.

Alonso memorably guided Bayer Leverkusen to their first Bundesliga title during an incredible undefeated 2023–24 season that also produced the DFB Pokal and a Europa League final appearance, where they lost to Atalanta.

Alonso has been linked to a return to Liverpool amid discussions about Arne Slot’s future at Anfield, and there have been rumours that they have already spoken with his representatives.

Slot witnessed audible jeers and is under increasing criticism at Anfield during Saturday’s game against Chelsea.
