Chelsea And Barcelona Interested In FC Twente Defender

According to ESPN, Ruud Nijstad is garnering interest from a number of high-profile European clubs. Chelsea and Barcelona are reportedly keeping an eye on the FC Twente defenders’ growth. Nijstad has only played 20 games for the team since his debut this season, but that has put the young defender on the radar of clubs like as Chelsea and Barcelona.

The 18-year-old central defender appears to be the latest player to be signed by a major club without ever having the opportunity to play regular first-team games. In recent years, many players have moved to clubs such as Chelsea based on their promise and a limited sample size of games. Clearly, Nijstad is a strong prospect, but many have gotten into senior teams only to suffer following the switch. However, it would be extremely difficult for any player to pass down the likes of Chelsea or Barcelona, given the financial incentives these clubs can provide, as well as the possibility to play at the top level of European football if the player breaks into the first team.

Nijstad has been capped at all levels of Dutch international football, including U18 level. Given his performance for Twente this season, he will almost probably be included in the next U21 squad.

FC Twente is one of the Eredivisie’s best teams this season, and Nijstad has contributed to that success. The team has conceded only 32 goals in 30 games, the best defensive record in the league. PSV, which have already won the Eredivisie, has conceded 40 goals, while Utrecht has the second best defence with 36.
