Rio Ferdinand has told Manchester United FC to rethink their midfield transfer plans and focus on signing highly rated Dutch youngster Kees Smit instead.
United have been linked with several midfield targets ahead of the summer transfer window, including Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães.
However, Ferdinand believes the club should move early for AZ Alkmaar star Smit, who has impressed many scouts with his technical quality and maturity in midfield.

Ferdinand’s strong backing highlights just how highly the youngster is already being rated in European football circles, reports Give me sport.
Ferdinand Sees Long-Term Midfield Answer
Rather than spending heavily on more established names, Ferdinand appears convinced that Smit could offer greater long-term value for United.
