Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has provided an update on Liverpool defender Jeremie Frimpong’s injury.
The Dutchman came on as a substitute in his country’s friendly against Ecuador on Tuesday, replacing Liverpool teammate Cody Gakpo at the start of the second half.
Frimpong, on the other hand, lasted less than 15 minutes before being replaced by Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke, who then proceeded directly down the tunnel.
Speaking after the 1-1 draw, Koeman said Frimpong’s change was injury-related, giving Liverpool a new blow ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup quarter-final match against Manchester City.

“That was a blow, and we had to substitute him,” Koeman told reporters.
Frimpong has already missed three games due to injury, disrupting his debut season with Liverpool.
All of them have been caused by a hamstring injury, the most recent of which occurred in the Champions League’s 6-0 victory against Qarabag, keeping him out of action for five games across all competitions.
The Reds will be hoping Frimpong’s latest setback is not too significant, with a Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain coming up after Saturday’s trip to the Etihad Stadium.
Liverpool’s right-back issues are well established, with Conor Bradley sidelined for the rest of the season due to a knee injury, leaving Joe Gomez as the only other obvious defensive option.
Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones have been asked to fill in at right-back throughout the season, and Arne Slot could turn to one of his midfield combination in the coming weeks.
Slot is likely to provide an update on the seriousness of Frimpong’s injury when he speaks with the media later this week ahead of the FA Cup match.
