Hojlund Aims Swipe At Amorim Over Man United Departure

Rasmus Hojlund says he was “put in a bit of a box” at the end of his time at Old Trafford and feels Ruben Amorim did not want him at Manchester United.

Hojlund scored 16 goals in his first season in England after joining United from Atalanta in 2023 for £72 million.

The Denmark international only managed to score 10 goals in 52 games during his second season at Old Trafford.

Last September, Hojlund was allowed to sign a season-long loan with Napoli. If the Serie A team qualifies for the Champions League this summer, Hojlund will become a permanent member of the team for £38 million.

The 23-year-old has flourished under Antonio Conte, scoring 14 goals in 37 games so far this season. He claims that his return to Serie A was mostly motivated by the trust of Napoli head coach.

Hojlund Breaks Silence

“I got what I wanted with my transfer,” Hojlund said in an interview with TV2 as reported by the Metro.

‘I got a team that believes in me a lot. A club that believes in me a lot. A sporting director, a president and a coach who wants me.”

Additionally, Hojlund feels that Amorim’s decision to exclude him from the team’s first Premier League match against Arsenal in August was a strong indication of his dire future at United.

“I was put in a bit of a box at the end in Manchester. I knew there wouldn’t be much football for me if it continued like this,’ Hojlund said.

“I was happy to play football in Manchester. I know that, especially in Denmark, a media image was formed that it was all just s*** and terrible, and that I played like a bag of nuts, but that’s not how I look at it.
