Lamine Yamal made more history for Barcelona on Tuesday night, as the Catalan giants drew 1-1 with Newcastle United in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 match.
Newcastle seized the lead in the 86th minute through Harvey Barnes, and his effort appeared to be enough to give Eddie Howe’s team a first-leg edge.
However, Barcelona had other plans, with Yamal scoring a last-gasp penalty for the Catalan giants after Malick Thiaw fouled Dani Olmo inside the box.
Yamal scored Barcelona’s most recent Champions League penalty goal at 95 minutes and 50 seconds, setting yet another record for the exceptional 18-year-old.

The Spain international currently has 20 goals and 15 assists in 37 appearances for the Catalan giants in the 2025-26 season, including four goals and three assists in seven Champions League games – incredible stats for a teenager.
Yamal’s penalty led to a draw for Barcelona versus Newcastle.
Barcelona’s head coach, Hansi Flick, said that his team struggled at St James’ Park but assured that the Catalan giants will be “different in the second leg”.
“We didn’t play well with the ball and lost possession too frequently, which is what Newcastle wants. “We knew they could pass the ball quickly,” Flick told reporters.
“It wasn’t easy, but I’m very proud of my team, especially the defence; we defended quite well on the field. We’ve played a lot of games recently, and some of our players are out injured. Bernal and Pedro haven’t been playing.
“We obviously need to improve, but the outcome is encouraging for us. After falling behind 1-0, it was amazing to come back and draw. We’ll see a different Barcelona in the second leg.
Flick promises “a different Barca” in the second leg.
“The match was tough. [Marc] Bernal and [Ronald] Araujo are returning to the game after extended absences. We must take it step by step; it is not easy.
“They’ll improve. It’s not easy to compete against this team. And I believe we played well defensively. We must expand since we have immense potential.
“It’s time to rest. We will have a few days to properly prepare for the future matchups. It’s normal to have these kinds of moments when you play at this level, in the Champions League and La Liga. We must adjust to this level.
Barcelona will continue their La Liga campaign against Sevilla on Sunday afternoon before hosting Newcastle at Camp Nou for the second leg on March 18.
