Carragher Raises Liverpool Concerns After UCL Defeat And Discusses Xabi Alonso Pressure

Former Jamie Carragher has admitted he has little confidence in Liverpool progressing deep into the UEFA Champions League this season.

The Reds suffered a 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray in the first leg of their round-of-16 clash in Istanbul, with Mario Lemina scoring the decisive goal early in the match.

Despite the setback, Carragher believes Liverpool can still overturn the deficit in the second leg at Anfield.

However, he warned that the team would struggle badly if they face Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals.

Speaking on CBS Sports, Carragher said Liverpool should still progress past Galatasaray but questioned their chances beyond that stage.

“I don’t think Galatasaray are a great team. They are still a team Liverpool should beat and go through,” he said.

“But I don’t have any hope for Liverpool going further if they face PSG.”

Xabi Alonso speculation increases pressure

Carragher also acknowledged that pressure on Slot has increased because former Liverpool star Xabi Alonso is currently available.

Alonso, who was part of Liverpool’s famous 2005 Champions League-winning side, previously impressed during his time managing Bayer Leverkusen.

Carragher admitted that Alonso’s connection with Liverpool fans naturally fuels speculation about a potential return to Anfield, reports Liverpool World.

While the club itself may not be pushing for a managerial change, he believes supporters’ admiration for Alonso intensifies the pressure surrounding Slot’s future.
