Former Chelsea Star Switches International Allegiance

Borussia Dortmund attacker, Carney Chukwuemeka has reportedly switched his allegiance from England to Austria in preparation for the FIFA World Cup this summer.

The 22-year-old made 23 appearances at the youth level while representing England at the under-17 and under-20 levels.

With three goals, he was England’s top scorer in the 2022 U19 Euros, where he was a member of the winning team.

He was born in Vienna before his family relocated to Northampton when he was a toddler, which allowed him his switch, which FIFA has approved.

According to ESPN, the former Aston Villa and Chelsea player is scheduled to make his Austria debut in their forthcoming friendlies against South Korea and Ghana at the end of the month.

After signing a permanent contract with Dortmund last summer, Chukwuemeka has made 30 appearances for the team this season.

Austria has been placed in a group with Argentina, Algeria, and Jordan for this year’s World Cup, which will be their first since 1998.
