Paul Scholes Exposes Michael Carrick’s Text Message After Receiving Man United Criticism

Paul Scholes has stated that the words he made on an Instagram story last week were never intended to be a criticism on Michael Carrick, and that the Manchester United head coach took no offense after the two discussed it privately. The former midfielder, 51, provoked outrage on social media after Carrick’s side fell to Newcastle last Wednesday.

Scholes wrote in an Instagram post, “Michael has definitely got something about him…cos United have been crap last 4 games…night.” Many read Scholes’ comments as an assault on Carrick, who has overseen a substantial improvement in form since replacing Ruben Amorim. The Newcastle defeat was his first setback since succeeding Amorim. Patrice Evra, a former Manchester United left-back, was among those caught aback, expressing optimism that Scholes had been ‘hacked’.

Scholes, speaking on The Good, The Bad, and The Football podcast on Monday, clarified his comments in response to criticism.

He stated: “It was not intended to be insulting to Michael. Michael is one of the kindest individuals in football, and the last person I want to insult.

“I texted Michael anyhow. I approached him and said, ‘Look, I had no intention of upsetting you’. I don’t think I needed to mention anything, and he told me he wasn’t upset about it.

“I believe people have simply misinterpreted what was intended. “The only thing I was saying was that I don’t think they played that well the last four games, but he’s still getting results.”We had the finest manager in the world, and he always maintained that sometimes you just need a little luck. So, with sending-offs and other events that occur during games, sometimes you do need a little luck, that’s all I was saying.”
