Arne Slot Urged To Start Liverpool ‘Senior Man’ For Champions League Clash

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been urged to make a bold selection decision ahead of their upcoming Champions League knockout tie.

The Reds will face Galatasaray in the round of 16 after finishing third in the competition’s group stage.

Despite struggling domestically and sitting outside the Premier League title race, Liverpool have performed strongly in European competition this season.

They won six of their eight group matches and now enter the knockout rounds as favourites against the Turkish champions.

However, pundits believe Slot must make a key defensive decision before the crucial first leg in Turkey this week.

Former England stars have suggested the Liverpool manager should start experienced defender Andy Robertson instead of summer signing Milos Kerkez.

Robertson recently impressed in the FA Cup victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, scoring once and assisting Mohamed Salah.

Pundits Back Robertson’s Experience

Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer believes Liverpool should rely on Robertson’s experience in such high-pressure European fixtures.

Speaking alongside Micah Richards, the pair argued Robertson’s knowledge could be crucial for the knockout stages.

Kerkez joined Liverpool from AFC Bournemouth last summer for around £40 million and initially became Slot’s preferred option, reports Metro.

However, the Hungarian full-back struggled early in the season while adjusting to Liverpool’s system and the demands of top-level football.

Robertson, who has played more than 350 games for Liverpool, remains one of the club’s most decorated modern players.

The Scotland international has helped the Reds win the Premier League, Champions League and several domestic trophies during his time at Anfield.

With Liverpool aiming for European success, pundits believe Robertson’s experience could prove decisive against Galatasaray in the knockout stage.
