Steve McManaman, a former Liverpool player, believes Arsenal will win two major trophies this season but does not believe they will win the Champions League.
Manchester City, who are in second place and still need to play the Gunners at the Etihad Stadium in April, are now seven points behind Arsenal in the Premier League.
After defeating Mansfield Town over the weekend, Mikel Arteta’s team advanced to the FA Cup quarterfinals and will play the Cityzens in the League Cup final at Wembley later this month.
Arsenal were given a match against Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16 after winning the Champions League league phase. If they advance to the quarterfinals, they will play either Sporting Lisbon or Bodo/Glimt.
McManaman believes they will have to settle for two trophies this season and dismissed rumours that they may achieve an unprecedented quadruple despite the Champions League’s kind draw.
McManaman Tips Arsenal To Win Two Trophies
Speaking to TNT Sports as quoted by Football 365, after Arsenal beat Mansfield on Saturday, McManaman said: “I think Arsenal will win two trophies this season – the league and a domestic cup.”
Chelsea legend Joe Cole is tipping Arsenal to get to the Champions League final this season after seeing their side of the draw.
Cole said on The Dressing Room Podcast: “Every team that has won it for the last ten years is on one side: Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, so it has opened up for Arsenal.
“I think, personally, it’s going to be an Arsenal versus Manchester City final. I think it will be an epic. Look at it, my only bet would be Arsenal going to the final.”
