David Beckham Explains Absence From Inter Miami’s White House Meeting With Lionel Messi

Players from Inter Miami CF visited the White House to celebrate their historic 2025 MLS Cup victory.

Led by Lionel Messi, the squad travelled to Washington, D.C., where they were honoured by United States president Donald Trump.

The ceremony recognised the club’s remarkable championship season after Miami captured their first MLS Cup title in 2025.

However, the event also drew attention for one notable absence, as club co-owner David Beckham did not attend.

The former Manchester United FC midfielder had initially hoped to accompany the team but was unable to travel.

Despite Beckham’s absence, several senior players including Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez attended the ceremony with teammates.

Beckham Misses Ceremony Due to Family Commitment

Reports confirmed Beckham remained in Europe due to a long-standing personal commitment involving his wife Victoria Beckham.

The Inter Miami co-owner attended Victoria’s fashion show, which coincided with the club’s official White House visit.

Because of the scheduling conflict, Beckham prioritised supporting his wife’s major professional event during the international fashion calendar.

The decision meant other club executives represented the ownership group during the celebration in Washington, reports GOAL.

Even without Beckham present, the ceremony marked a major milestone for Inter Miami’s ambitious project.

The club’s rapid rise has been widely credited to Beckham’s vision, particularly after he helped bring Messi to Major League Soccer.

That move transformed Miami from a young expansion franchise into one of the most recognisable teams in world football.
