The Swiss centre-back posted a photo from inside a bunker on Instagram, describing the days as “some of my most terrifying.”
He added that witnessing the unrest firsthand was frightening, and expressed hope that aid reaches those affected in conflict zones.
Schar’s Recovery and Safety Update
Manager Eddie Howe previously confirmed Schar’s surgery went successfully, estimating three months for full rehabilitation before returning to competitive action.
Flights in the region were disrupted due to airport closures in Dubai and Doha, stranding thousands of British citizens attempting to leave affected areas.
Despite the chaos, Schar managed to secure travel back to the UK, and Newcastle confirmed his safe return ahead of training sessions, reports Express.
The 32-year-old has yet to resume full team training but continues individual rehabilitation, focusing on regaining match fitness and mobility after the ankle surgery.
Schar’s experience highlights the challenges athletes face when traveling abroad during global unrest, balancing recovery with unexpected personal safety risks.
Newcastle supporters welcomed his safe return, while the club plans to carefully monitor his progress before reintroducing him into Premier League fixtures.
