Pep Guardiola Theory Emerges As He Ought To Retire Into A New Role At Manchester City

Joe Hart believes Pep Guardiola will not be concerned about any Manchester City contract uncertainty until the season is over. The former City goalkeeper believes the 55-year-old may finish his managerial career at Manchester, with silverware the primary priority at the moment.

Guardiola signed a contract extension in November 2024, which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2027. However, with Erling Haaland’s statement regarding his manager’s likely resignation and former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca in talks with City, suspicion has only grown.

City is said to be scouting for potential successors, given no contract negotiations with their present manager are currently underway. Guardiola also stated in May 2025 that he would be “taking a break” from management after leaving Manchester.

Hart has an entirely different perspective on the scenario involving Guardiola. The former England international, who is scheduled to appear at Soccer Aid 2026 at the London Stadium, spoke with Manchester Evening News about his former manager’s future plans.

When asked if he believes Guardiola would stay until his contract ends, Hart speculated he may complete his coaching career with City, maybe transferring to a behind-the-scenes position.

He replied, “I don’t know. If and when he leaves Manchester City, I don’t think he’ll need to transfer elsewhere. He’s committed to that club; he adores it. The club adores him. As a result, whatever decisions are taken will be done together.

“I’m not sure whether he does do the remainder of his contract or whatever, but all they care about at that club right now is trying to win: the Premier League, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, the Champions League.”
