Bruno Fernandes attempted to convince João Neves to join Manchester United before the midfielder sealed his move to Paris Saint-Germain, fresh revelations have confirmed.
Neves departed Benfica in August 2024 for £60 million, opting for the French champions despite interest from Old Trafford.
PSG’s investment has since looked inspired, with the versatile Portuguese international excelling in midfield and occasionally at right-back under Luis Enrique.

He played a pivotal role during a historic campaign that culminated in PSG’s first-ever Champions League triumph, finishing the season with impressive attacking contributions.
According to teammate Vitinha, both he and Fernandes tried “100%” to sway Neves toward their respective clubs. Ultimately, the 21-year-old chose Paris over Manchester.
Liverpool Preparing Stunning Record-Breaking Move
While United missed out previously, Neves could still be destined for the Premier League.
Liverpool are reportedly plotting a sensational €150m–€160m bid — potentially £140m — to prise PSG’s “crown jewel” away from the French capital.
Such a fee would shatter the British transfer record once again, underlining the Reds’ ambition to reinforce their midfield core.
Chelsea and Real Madrid have also been credited with monitoring the situation, highlighting Neves’ elite reputation across Europe, reports Team Talk.
For United, the revelation that Fernandes personally pushed for the signing may sting, especially as midfield reinforcements remain a priority.
Whether Liverpool follow through with a historic offer remains to be seen, but Neves’ stock continues to soar after choosing PSG over Old Trafford — a decision that has so far delivered silverware and global recognition.
