Earlier this month, Sport Witness confirmed rekindled Manchester City interest in AS Roma’s Wesley.
The stance was that Pep Guardiola admires the wing-back, who has been one of Roma’s most important players this season. The Brazilian sensation was hailed as the ‘new Cafu’, with the player making an impact in Rome in only a handful of months.
Wesley has become a favourite of boss Gian Piero Gasperini, who has also used the defender as a left wingback. This hasn’t held him back, and the player is just as impressive at that position.
More about Manchester City is surfacing from Italy, and their quest is unlikely to be simple.
Manchester City has been told to pay double
Today’s Corriere della Sera examines the 22-year-old’s future as part of a feature complimenting Roma’s signings under director Ricky Massara.

Special emphasis is placed on Wesley’s development. Manchester City has expressed interest, although it is expected that the Citizens will have to pay roughly €50 million to sign him in the summer.
Roma paid €25 million to lure him to Italy, and his strong performances have boosted his value. The Giallorossi are expected to exploit Italian wing-back Marco Palestra’s €40 million estimate to boost their own player’s value.
This is predicated on the notion that Palestra has yet to make an impact at a team as large as Roma. He has only excelled at Cagliari, who are lower on the standings.
How Wesley’s worth can increase further
So far this season, the Brazilian has appeared 31 times in all competitions. He has three goals to his name and fits perfectly into Gasperini’s system.
Beyond that, he has demonstrated a willingness to adjust. He has outworked the majority of the group.
Gasperini’s structure is difficult to fit into, but Wesley has done so very effortlessly. That is a testament to the wing-back’s abilities.
It’s easy to understand why Manchester City would want him, especially given he can play on either side. It wouldn’t be surprising if his worth increased further, especially since his Roma deal runs until 2030.
