Cunha Makes Amorim Feelings Clear Following Carrick Change

Matheus Cunha has reportedly stated that some of the credit for Manchester United’s recent success should go to the fired Ruben Amorim.

United have won four of their last five games and drawn one under interim manager Michael Carrick.

The Red Devils had drew 1-1 with Leeds United at Elland Road and 1-1 with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford prior to the former midfielder rejoining the team for a second stint.

After the tie at Elland Road, Amorim also blasted United board members, claiming he was the manager and not the team’s head coach. The Portuguese only claimed 24 victories out of his 63 games in over 14 month.

United were in sixth place when Amorim was sacked.

Amorim brought Cunha from Wolves to the team, and he thinks the former United manager merits some recognition for his efforts.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Brazil international maintained that without Amorim in charge, his £62.5 million transfer from the Midlanders last summer would not have happened.

“I’ve always been very grateful for everything Ruben did,” Cunha told DAZN.

“I think it’s very easy, when things change, to see the past as only problems, but it’s quite the opposite.

“He was an incredible person. Many new players came because of him, so I think he also plays a big part in the success we are having now.”

The 26-year-old is thriving under Carrick’s guidance. He scored goals in victories against Arsenal and Fulham and contributed an assist in the victory over Manchester City.

But he reckons the claim that United’s comeback is due to the change in strategy from Amorim to Carrick has been overstated.
