Trent Alexander-Arnold Pays Tribute To Liverpool Hero Diogo Jota With A Beautiful Gesture

Fans have spotted former Liverpool player Trent Alexander-Arnold’s poignant homage to the late Diogo Jota. The Portuguese forward was sadly killed in a car accident with his brother Andre Silva in the Zamora district of Sanabria, Spain, last July.

Liverpool retired the number 20 shirt in his honour, and fans still sing Jota’s name during matches.

His memory is preserved in a variety of ways, with Anfield and Molineux – the home of his former team Wolves – serving as memorials for supporters who desire to pay their respects.

Following their untimely deaths, football figures from around the world banded together to remember the two men. Liverpool players, led by Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson, attended the funeral in Gondomar, Porto. Van Dijk and Robertson brought floral tributes displaying Jota and Silva’s shirt numbers from their respective teams, reported on X.

Alexander Arnold departed Liverpool a few months before Jota’s death, but continued to pay tribute.

When he returned to Anfield as a Real Madrid player, he sent flowers and a touching note for ‘Forever 20,’ describing Jota as a good friend who ‘lit up the room.’

Fans were quick to notice that the number 20 is accompanied by an infinite symbol on the side of Alexander-Arnold’s footwear.

Alexander-Arnold wore the boots during Madrid’s 1-0 victory against Benfica in the Champions League play-off first leg in Lisbon on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old spent five seasons at Liverpool alongside Jota before joining Spanish giants Madrid for £10 million.

Jota, meanwhile, signed for Liverpool from Wolves in September 2020.

The attacker helped the Reds win the Premier League title last season, appearing in 26 games and scoring six goals.
