When Real Madrid face Benfica in the first leg of their Champions League play-off round match on Tuesday, they will see former manager Jose Mourinho for the second time in as just few weeks.
Los Blancos will seek revenge in Lisbon against the Portuguese team, who won the previous encounter 4–2.
Three weeks ago at the Estadio da Luz, Mourinho orchestrated a stunning victory for Benfica, demonstrating his ever-present managerial skill.
The top brass of Real Madrid still hold him in high regard, even if his Los Blancos team did not perform well during his three-year stint from 2010 to 2013.
Mourinho Could Depart Benfica For Real Madrid
As a result, there have been rumours that Mourinho would have a second stint at the Bernabeu, and it would be simple to get him back if Real Madrid made a move.
According to Diario AS, Mourinho has a clause in his Portugal contract that permits him to depart up to ten days after the season ends without incurring a penalty.
Alvaro Arbeloa will remain Real Madrid’s manager until the end of the current campaign, and they are now evaluating several possibilities.

The ideal manager is Jurgen Klopp, but since he doesn’t appear to be returning anytime soon, Mourinho would be the next best choice because of his ability at dealing with strong personalities, an area in which Xabi Alonso struggled while in charge.
Who Real Madrid decide to move for will be interesting to watch.
Arbeloa has the opportunity to continue for another season, but it could depend on his performance in La Liga and/or the Champions League, which is far from certain.
Mourinho might be a possibility, although there hasn’t been any communication with the iconic manager’s reps as of yet.
