The Manchester United supporter who has been waiting for the Red Devils to win five straight games will have to wait some more following United’s 1-1 draw with West Ham on Tuesday.
Frank Ilett, also known as “The United Strand,” has gone 493 days without getting his hair cut. In November 2024, he promised to keep growing his hair if his team didn’t win five straight games.
It appeared that he might be able to arrange a long-awaited trip to the barbershop when Michael Carrick took over as manager to replace the fired Ruben Amorim.
Prior to United’s trip to West Ham on Tuesday, Carrick, who was appointed head coach of the team till the end of the season, had guided them to four consecutive wins.

The United supporter set up a live feed on the streaming service Kick to watch the game unfold while anxiously awaiting answers on whether he would be able to schedule that haircut. Ilett’s hair has gone viral for reaching absurd proportions over time.
But in the end, he would be let down because United only managed to salvage a late draw at West Ham courtesy Benjamin Sesko’s last-minute equalizer cancelled Tomas Soucek’s opening goal in the second half.
The United Strand Reacts
“The longer the better for charity,” Ilett said on his live stream after the full-time whistle as quoted by the Evening Standard.
“I don’t want this to be about me at all and I’m sure that it probably will be, but it is still unbeaten and good form,” he continued.
