Bayern Munich Cautiously Managing Game Time Of Star Forward

Bayern Munich earned a huge boost at the start of Ruckrunde when Jamal Musiala returned to action after missing more than six months due to injury. In mid-January, the German attacking midfielder returned to play for Bayern against RB Leipzig.

Musiala scored an assist immediately after coming on against RB Leipzig. Despite the enthusiasm around his return, Bayern has been extremely careful regarding his assimilation into the first squad. He did not play in the Champions League match against Union Saint-Gilloise. Musiala came on after an hour against Augsburg on Saturday.

The 22-year-old offensive midfielder has displayed good touches in the final third but lacks the crispness that has previously worried opponents. Musiala’s slow return to form following such a devastating injury is understandable.

Bayern do not want to put Musiala under pressure, as they want to give him enough time to return to his peak performance. While speaking with TZ on Saturday (via iMiaSanMia), Max Eberl stated that Musiala will gradually gain more playing time and make a significant effect in the final third for Die Roten as the season continues.

“It is difficult to integrate into a continuing competition with such high standards. But now he has half an hour and is planning his next steps. He needs a few minutes and moments of greatness. He got two or three chances in the box. You can tell that when you’ve been out for 9 months, you lack the confidence to make the final decision. But every minute is beneficial for him.”

Bayern have performed admirably without Musiala.

When Musiala sustained a horrible injury against Paris Saint-Germain in June, Bayern were concerned since he is so important to the team’s play under Vincent Kompany.

In Musiala’s absence, Kompany has managed to bring out the best in other forwards, ensuring Bayern’s lethalness in the last third. Serge Gnabry has returned to his finest form this season. The German forward is likely to sign a new contract soon.

Because of Musiala’s injury, Lennart Karl has had the opportunity to break into the first team. Karl has been a revelation in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League this season. He has scored key goals for Bayern in all competitions. With Luis Diaz, Michael Olise, and Harry Kane firing on all cylinders, and Karl and Gnabry in good form, Die Roten can gradually bring Musiala back into the starting XI.
