La Liga Chief Accuses Real Madrid Owner Of Destroying Spanish Football

La Liga president Javier Tebas has reignited his long-running feud with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez with a fresh and scathing attack.

Speaking at the Europa Press Sports Breakfast, Tebas accused Perez of playing a central role in ongoing conflicts threatening Spanish football.

While recent headlines have focused on Real Madrid’s decision to part ways with Xabi Alonso, Tebas insisted deeper structural issues remain unresolved.

He dismissed claims that La Liga’s controversial CVC investment deal endangered club ownership models, reports Madrid Universal.

Tebas argued that the agreement was clearly explained to club presidents and legally misrepresented by Real Madrid.

According to Tebas, the legal challenge distorted public perception and ignored the broader benefits for Spanish football.

He claimed Madrid’s opposition has consistently obstructed progress within the league.

Tebas said the CVC deal has been vital in modernising stadiums and increasing long-term revenue across La Liga.

He then turned his attention to historical match-fixing scandals, contrasting them with the ongoing Negreira investigation.

Tebas rejected claims that the Negreira case is the most serious episode in Spanish football history.

Instead, he referenced alleged match-buying incidents between 2008 and 2013, accusing Real Madrid of failing to support investigations at the time.

He stressed that La Liga and Spanish prosecutors, not Real Madrid, are leading the Negreira case.

Tebas acknowledged that referee bribery has not been proven, but described payments to a former referees’ vice-president as extremely serious.

Finally, he addressed the breakdown in relations between Perez and Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

Tebas linked the fallout to the Super League dispute, accusing Madrid of using legal pressure as a coercive tactic.

He concluded by claiming certain clubs are actively trying to weaken La Liga and its leadership.
