Forgotten Manchester United Youngster Sends Michael Carrick A Timely Reminder Ahead Of Appointment

Chido Obi delivered a statement to incoming Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick by scoring his first goals of 2026 in the Under-21s’ 4-1 victory over Wolves. The striker hasn’t played for the first team since last season, after being snubbed by Ruben Amorim.

The attacker extended United’s lead in the second half, after Tyrell Malacia put them ahead. His first goal was a close-range shot, followed by a controlled finish inside the area to make it 4-1.

Obi has already scored five goals in nine Premier League 2 games this season.

ainst Telford was his first league goal since a 2-1 victory against Liverpool in late September. According to Mirror News.

Despite his impressive performances in the academy since joining from Arsenal, the 18-year-old has only made one first-team appearance this season. Ruben Amorim’s 1-1 Premier League match with Wolves saw Obi come on as an unused substitute.

Last season, the striker made eight appearances for United, seven of them were in the Premier League. However, an early Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town in August has limited his chances this season.

With Amorim gone and Carrick set to take charge, Obi has provided a timely reminder of his powers. Throughout the first half of the season, fans have been calling for Obi’s promotion to the first team.

United’s Under-21s are presently dominating Premier League 2, having won eight of their first nine matches. However, given Benjamin Sesko’s sluggish start at Old Trafford and Joshua Zirkzee’s unclear future, Obi could get a chance under Carrick.

Earlier this season, former United boss Amorim attracted criticism for comments about the club’s youth academy. When asked about his reluctance to offer Kobbie Mainoo more playing time, the Portuguese manager hinted at a sense of entitlement among United players.
