Gary Neville Explains To Todd Boehly how Chelsea Might Become ‘Cold Hearted Killers’ Under Enzo Maresca

Gary Neville has spoken about Chelsea’s issue as they attempt to transition from a top-four squad to one capable of competing for the Premier League title. Despite some early criticism of Todd Boehly’s tenure, Chelsea has made some sound signings in the last 18 months.

The Blues have assembled an extremely strong and young roster that, in principle, will provide club quality for years to come. The notion is that Chelsea paid a premium to secure youthful talent in the hopes of avoiding considerably higher fees later on if those players perform to their potential.

It’s a financial plan that has the potential to lead to on-field success if enough of those young players prove to be hits. So far, Enzo Maresca’s young group appears to be capable of securing another Champions League qualifying, with Chelsea on track to do so, but they remain some distance behind Arsenal and Manchester City.

Chelsea are still prone to making blunders in critical occasions, which is understandable considering their squad’s young. That’s why Neville believes Maresca needs a dose of ready-made quality to help propel this club to the next level.,

“It’s really obvious that Maresca is a fantastic coach, and it’s really obvious that there’s a group of players who are really young and have fantastic potential,” Neville told The Gary Neville Podcast after Chelsea’s comeback tie with Newcastle United.

“I’m just curious if Maresca could slightly change the model; he’s been brought in to work with these players, but you do need an experienced spine.” Chelsea’s first half performance resembles that of an academy team competing in a participation game. It’s not a severe, aggressive, or awful fixture. When you observe them in the second half, they appear to be in high spirits.
