Barcelona Forward Holds Direct Talks With Sporting Director For MLS Club

New information has added to the mounting concern over Robert Lewandowski’s future at Barcelona.

According to a new report from Mundo Deportivo, the Polish striker recently had a quiet but significant encounter that could influence the future chapter of his career.

On Sunday, Lewandowski met with senior executives from Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire at one of Barcelona’s hotels.

The interaction was neither accidental nor casual. It was a meticulously planned talk in which the American club laid the groundwork for an ambitious proposal aimed squarely at the veteran forward.

Importantly, Lewandowski was not alone for the meeting; he was joined by his long-time representative, Pini Zahavi.

Chicago fires are pretty serious.

The Chicago Fire plan goes above and beyond a normal sporting offer, combining a solid sporting concept with a significant financial package backed by commercial and marketing incentives.

Lewandowski views the offer positively. However, the striker does not feel compelled to make a quick decision on his future.

Lewandowski’s contract will expire at the end of the season. While the striker is at ease in the city and would be willing to stay with the club, Barcelona’s stance is far less solid.

Internally, there is a growing sense that the club does not entirely support the idea of continuing the partnership on the current conditions, especially given the forward’s age and pay.

Meanwhile, Chicago Fire’s interest isn’t new. The MLS club has been studying Lewandowski’s status for some time, and this new meeting suggests that their interest has progressed to a more definite level.

Gregg Berhalter, the American club’s sporting director, personally delivered the pitch and used the meeting to gauge the striker’s interest in a potential summer move.

Despite the size of the offer, Lewandowski is taking the situation calmly. He is considering not only the financial benefits, but also his long-term athletic goals.
