Liverpool’s season appears to be getting back on track, with Arne Slot’s team undefeated in their last five games. Following a great start to the season with five consecutive victories, the Reds had a dreadful losing streak that included defeats to Manchester United, Manchester City, Brentford, and Nottingham Forest.
The 2-0 victory over Brighton, in which Hugo Ekitike scored both goals, should provide the club with the impetus it needs to make the most of the 2025/2026 season. The next Premier League fixture is an away game against Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs have also struggled to rediscover their form and will be looking to rebound from a 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.
As the busy festive season begins, Slot will be hoping his squad can earn victories while star player Mohamed Salah is away for AFCON duty. Ahead of this weekend’s encounter, the Liverpool Echo looks at all the latest Anfield headlines.

Mohamed Salah is allegedly on his way to Saudi Arabia ahead of the AFCON tournament. The forward’s future is unknown following his heated outburst in the mixed zone following the match against Leeds United.

However, he made a comeback against Brighton and Hove Albion, assisting Ekitike on his second goal of the game.
According to Saudi media outlet Al-Riyadiya, Salah will go to Jeddah before joining his Egyptian teammates in Morocco.
The major reason is to perform the Umrah pilgrimage, although he may also meet with the Saudi Ministry of Tourism.
The teenager took to Instagram to announce his departure, writing: “After 8 years at Liverpool, it is time for me to say goodbye.”
“I’d like to thank all of the staff and coaches that helped me grow as a player and person.
“I will miss the memories and friends I made along the way; however, I am looking forward to starting a new chapter and hopefully more things to come.”
