Joshua Zirkzee has struggled to make an impact at Manchester United since joining from Bologna for £36.5m in 2024. Despite limited success, there is hope for the Dutch striker’s future at Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old has scored just eight goals in 57 appearances across all competitions, often finding himself on the sidelines. Many expected him to leave in the upcoming transfer window.
However, the absence of injured striker Benjamin Sesko has opened the door for Zirkzee to prove his worth. He was given a rare chance to impress against Crystal Palace.
Former England striker Emile Heskey believes this could be a turning point for Zirkzee, provided he receives the right support from his teammates.

“Joshua has had a really tough start at Manchester United and been under scrutiny,” Heskey said. “But he’s playing with far less fear now, and that game showed what he can do.”
Heskey highlighted Zirkzee’s ability to hold up the ball, drag defenders, and create space for teammates, stressing that surrounding players must capitalize on these strengths.
Zirkzee’s future at United is far from certain, but with proper backing, he could still become a valuable asset for the club.
Meanwhile, another young United talent, Kobbie Mainoo, remains on the fringes. He was again an unused substitute during the draw with West Ham, reports Mirror.
Paul Scholes criticized manager Ruben Amorim for mishandling Mainoo, calling it “bulls***” and warning it could harm the midfielder’s development.
The spotlight is now on Zirkzee to seize his opportunity and prove that he can thrive at one of England’s biggest clubs.
