Jamie Carragher has dismissed suggestions that Steven Gerrard could replace under-fire Liverpool manager Arne Slot, insisting the Dutchman still has the full backing of the club’s hierarchy.
Slot has been under intense scrutiny following Liverpool’s worst run of form in 71 years, with nine defeats in their last 12 matches before Sunday’s crucial 2-0 win over West Ham.

The victory, secured by second-half goals from Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo, provided much-needed relief and allowed Slot to publicly insist he will “fight on” as head coach.
Despite that, speculation around his future has remained constant, with some fans even calling for a return of Jurgen Klopp just a year after his departure.
Carragher Shuts Down Gerrard Rumours
Carragher, however, believes the idea of Gerrard taking over is completely unrealistic and says Liverpool would struggle to find a better manager than Slot right now.
Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, the former defender said everyone at the club is desperate for Slot to succeed despite the recent slump, reports
He highlighted the importance of the West Ham win, calling it Liverpool’s toughest fixture during their difficult run due to the pressure surrounding the match.
When asked directly if the rumours about Gerrard returning as manager were true, Carragher simply replied: “No, I wouldn’t imagine.”
He praised Gerrard’s managerial achievements at Rangers and Aston Villa but stressed that fans are not calling for him to replace Slot, reports Mirror.
Carragher concluded by warning that the real concern is how long Liverpool can afford their poor form to continue if results do not improve.
