Neville Slams ‘Embarrassing And Complacent’ Man United Following Everton Defeat

Gary Neville blasted Manchester United following the team’s 1-0 loss against Everton, calling the outcome an embarrassment and implying that their own complacency caused them to fail.

After going five games without a loss, United entered Monday night’s showdown at Old Trafford riding somewhat of a crest of a wave thanks to draws against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham and morale-boosting victories over Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton.

And things appeared to going the way of Ruben Amorim’s side once again when Idrissa Gueye was sent off after just 13 minutes for hitting his own Everton team-mate Michael Keane.

But United faltered after that, as an outstanding strike from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall gave the Toffees the lead at the half-hour mark.

The visitors maintained that lead for the rest of the match, with the home team finding it difficult to create anything noteworthy.

Neville Lambasted Man United For Their Approach Against 10-Man Everton

Neville, a former United defender, was unrelenting in his criticism of his old club, criticizing their style of play and the fact that they were unable to disrupt their 10-man opponents.

“It was nowhere near good enough,” Neville said in his role as a pundit on Sky Sports as quoted by The Independent.

“That was a really bad night for Manchester United, it was an embarrassment at times.

“Forget (the injuries to Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha), there are no excuses. I’m not entertaining that one bit.

“Everton dominated them with 11 men and with 10 men, in a different way of domination, but they dominated them through their fight and their spirit.

“It’s complacency, and complacency will kill you. The minute that you think as a football player that you just have to turn up on that pitch and you’re Manchester United and you can play or any football club, you’re done.”
