Ronaldo Ready For ‘Boos’ After Heated Clash With Everton Defender

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to face the Republic of Ireland tonight, fully aware that boos from home fans are inevitable.

The Portugal captain meets Everton defender Jake O’Brien again after a heated moment in their previous World Cup qualifier.

Ronaldo had celebrated wildly in O’Brien’s face following Ruben Neves’ last-minute winner.

That incident did not sit well with Irish fans, and a hostile reception is expected when the two sides meet at the Aviva Stadium.

Speaking ahead of the game, Ronaldo admitted he understands the fans’ emotions but remains focused on helping Portugal qualify.

“I really like the fans here. I hope they don’t boo me too much tomorrow. I’ll try to be a good boy,” Ronaldo joked.

Portugal currently sit top of their qualifying group, while Ireland must win to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

For O’Brien, the game offers a chance to redeem himself after recent poor performances for the national team, reports goodisonnews.

The 24-year-old joined Everton from Lyon in 2024 and has been filling in at right-back due to Nathan Patterson’s injury.

Although naturally a centre-back, O’Brien has shown commitment in an unfamiliar role, though Everton are expected to sign a new right-back in January.

The spotlight, however, remains on Ronaldo — the legend who knows even boos can’t shake his focus on victory.
