Footballer Suffers Brain Injury After Collapsing On Pitch

Andrea Medina, a Spanish football player, was taken to the hospital on Wednesday night after suffering a brain injury during a Women’s Champions League match.

The match between Atletico Madrid and Juventus was marred by upsetting events a fter the 21-year-old slumped on the field and required immediate medical attention.

After colliding with Juventus star Barbara Bonansea, the left-back, who started her professional career at Real Betis before switching to Atletico Madrid in 2022, fell and was motionless for a long period.

After receiving emergency care from the club’s medical staff, Medina was carried off on a stretcher and quickly taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

According to the Mirror, English pundit Jacqui Oatley, who was covering the match at Centro Deportivo Alcala de Henares on Wednesday, called the incident “horrendous” in a social media post.

She wrote on X: “This is horrendous. We’ve just commentated on Atletico Madrid’s @UWCL game v Juventus for Disney+ and young Spanish left back Andrea Medina suddenly went down – she received urgent lengthy treatment before being carried off. We wish her all the very best and hope she’s OK.”

Offering an update on the player’s condition following the match, Atletico Madrid women said in a statement: “Andrea Medina was replaced after suffering a traumatic brain injury.

“The footballer is doing well but has been transferred to a hospital center to undergo additional tests.”
