Eduardo Camavinga was training away from the squad for international duty ahead of France’s match against Ukraine later this week.
However, there was hope that it was just a niggle and that he would be back on time.
However, late yesterday, reports spread that Camavinga was still suffering from hamstring injury, casting doubt on his availability versus Ukraine.
Needless to say, the development is concerning for Real Madrid, who have recently watched the teenager return from a number of long-term injuries.
What exactly did Deschamps say?
Didier Deschamps, the French national team coach, recently spoke with the media via BeIN Sports USA and had a crucial point to make about Camavinga and his injury history.
“Eduardo Camavinga has injuries that prevent him from having consistency,” he said, describing how the player was struggling with his conditioning.

Deschamps stated, “Injuries were the single biggest factor holding me back from playing a regular role for club and country.”
“He wants more game time so he can improve. If he didn’t have these issues, he would undoubtedly be more consistent with Real Madrid and us.”
As it stands, Camavinga’s participation in France’s forthcoming game appears to be ruled out, but one has to wonder why the player has not been returned to Madrid if he is in such significant pain.
There is still hope!
The French national team’s choice to keep him around and allow him to practice separately suggests that they believe he will be ready for the team’s second game.
Real Madrid could see this as an indirect indication that the pain is not serious.
From Xabi Alonso’s standpoint, Camavinga’s absence is excellent news since it assures the player receives the rest he requires and does not play unneeded minutes.
All that matters for Real Madrid, after all, is that the player is fit and ready to play by the time the international break arrives. Camavinga will have to step up and continue stepping in for Aurelien Tchouameni as Los Blancos prepare for some crucial road games.
