Robert Lewandowski Hat-Trick Helps Barcelona Punish Real Madrid Slip

Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick to help Barcelona defeat Celta Vigo 4-2 on Sunday in La Liga, cutting Real Madrid’s advantage to three points. The veteran Polish striker’s three goals helped Hansi Flick’s team capitalise on Los Blancos’ earlier 0-0 draw at Rayo Vallecano.

Teenager Lamine Yamal also scored for Barcelona in another thrilling encounter featuring the champs’ aggressive style, and Marcus Rashford added two more assists. Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong was sent off late in the game for two yellow cards, but the champions had already clinched their victory and moved into second place.

Lewandowski has had a slow start to the season due to injuries, and Flick believes his hat-trick will bolster his confidence.

“After the injury I can see a different Robert Lewandowski, he’s positive, he came back very early,” Flick said to the press.

“For him, for his confidence, it’s great to score three goals today.”

Lewandowski described the game as “one of the craziest” of the season, but was satisfied with the outcome.

“Vigo is always difficult for us, but we now have fewer points (between us and Real Madrid),” Lewandowski told Movistar.

Flick reiterated that Barcelona will not modify their style despite recent problems, including a 3-3 Champions League match with Club Brugge on Wednesday, which resulted in a frantic first half.

The champions took the lead after 10 minutes with a Lewandowski penalty following a handball, but Celta leveled a minute later.

Rashford squandered a one-on-one opportunity, and Celta surged through to score, with Sergio Carreira scampering behind Barcelona’s high defensive line.

Missing numerous injured stars, Flick had called on his players to battle harder in their absence, and they were more energized at Balaidos.
