FIFA Unveils New Peace Prize Ahead Of 2026 World Cup Draw In Washington

FIFA announced on Wednesday that it has established a new annual award, the FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World, to recognize individuals who use football to promote unity and optimism. The reward will be granted at the 2026 World Cup draw in Washington.

“Football stands for peace, and on behalf of the entire global football community, the FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World will recognise the enormous efforts of those individuals who unite people, bringing hope for future generations,” according to a statement issued by FIFA president Gianni Infantino. According To france 24 news.

The statement came ahead of Infantino’s appearance at the America Business Forum in Miami, which also featured US President Donald Trump and Argentine World Cup winner Lionel Messi.

The recipient of the inaugural prize has not been named, but there is immediate speculation that it would go to Trump, an Infantino buddy who is likely to attend the December 5 draw at the Kennedy Center in the United States capital.

Trump, joined by Infantino, announced from the Oval Office in August that the draw would be held at the Kennedy Center, where he took over as chairman this year in what he called a fight against “woke” culture.

Since returning to office for a second term in January, Trump has argued that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his involvement in resolving various global problems.

However, the Norwegian Nobel Committee snubbed the US president last month, awarding the peace prize to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.

The United States, Canada, and Mexico will jointly host the 2026 World Cup from June 11 to July 19.
