Slot ‘Excuses’ Claim As Two Liverpool Stars To Miss Aston Villa Clash

Liverpool head coach, Arne Slot has reportedly confirmed Alexander Isak and Curtis Jones will miss the Reds’ matchup with Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday night.

Ryan Gravenberch has resumed training and may play ahead of a pivotal week in his team’s season, according to the Reds boss, who is under pressure.

After injuring his ankle during the home loss to Manchester United two weeks ago, the midfielder has missed the last three games.

British transfer record-breaking signing Isak has been sidelined after suffering a groin injury during the first half of the Champions League victory at Eintracht Frankfurt, while midfielder Jones was substituted during the second half of last weekend’s 3-2 Premier League loss at Brentford.

Isak, Jones Out But Gravenberch May Feature

According to the Liverpool Echo, Slot is becoming more positive about Gravenberch’s possible involvement against the Midlands team, but he does not expect to have Isak and Jones ready on Saturday night.

Speaking on Friday morning, he said: “Ryan trained yesterday, Isak and Jones didn’t yet.”

“Timescale? I have said many times, the end phase of the injury, things can go slower or faster. Let’s wait and see where they are.

“Ryan trained yesterday and with us today and we’ll make the call if he can start. The other two 99.9% not in the squad.”

Due to hamstring problems, Alisson Becker and Jeremie Frimpong are still out, and defender Giovanni Leoni will probably miss the remainder of the season due to ACL surgery.
