Bayern Reward Kompany With New Contract

Vincent Kompany has reportedly signed a new two-year contract at Bayern Munich keeping him with the German side until June 2029.

The Manchester City legend took over the Bavarian team in May 2024, and his existing contract was scheduled to expire in the summer of 2027.

The 39-year-old Belgian has won 49 of his 67 games in all competitions and led Bayern to the Bundesliga title last season.

“I’m grateful, honoured and would like to thank Bayern for the trust and the working environment they’ve given me from day one,” Kompany said as quoted by The BBC.

“It feels like I’ve been here a lot longer and that I know the club well. It’s been a great experience so far.

“We’ve started on a wonderful journey. Let’s keep working hard and celebrate much more success.”

Bayern began the 2025-26 campaign by winning the German Super Cup and they sit five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

“The contract extension with Vincent Kompany is a strong vote of confidence from the club after the great job he’s done up to now, as well as a clear sign for continuity and stability at Bayern,” club president Herbert Hainer said.

“Vincent is held in high regard by the players, the club management and the fans. We’re happy about the early extension of our cooperation.”

After declaring his retirement from playing, the defender took on the role full-time in 2020 after securing his first position in the dugout as a player-manager with boyhood club Anderlecht in 2019.

He guided the Belgian team to two league titles upon taking over as manager of Burnley in 2022.

Kompany won the Championship in his first season at Turf Moor Although the Clarets finished 19th and were relegated from the Premier League the following season.
