Graham Potter Named New Sweden Head Coach After West Ham Exit

Graham Potter has been named the new head coach of the Sweden national team following his recent dismissal from West Ham United.

The 50-year-old coach has signed a short-term deal that runs through the remainder of the World Cup qualifiers and potential playoffs.

If Sweden qualify, Potter will lead them into the 2026 World Cup finals next summer, marking a major return to the country where his career first flourished.

Sweden currently sit bottom of Group B with just one point from four matches, leaving Potter with a tough rebuilding task, the standard.

“I am very honoured by the task, but also incredibly inspired,” said Potter, who previously managed Ostersunds FK with great success in Sweden.

He added, “Sweden has fantastic players performing in top leagues. My job is to help them perform at the highest level possible.”

Potter Returns to His Football Roots

Swedish FA chairman Simon Astrom praised the appointment, describing Potter as a “strong and experienced leader tested at the highest level.”

He confirmed that the federation’s focus remains on reaching next summer’s World Cup through the playoffs in March.
