Liverpool manager Arne Slot believes Alexander Isak is now nearing full match fitness after a difficult preseason period following his move.
The Swedish striker joined Liverpool from Newcastle this summer after pushing for an exit from St James’ Park during the transfer window.
Having featured in six matches under Slot so far this campaign, Isak has also been active with Sweden during international duty.
Slot said the forward is finally reaching the physical condition required to perform at his best level for Liverpool consistently.
“Now he’s had five or six weeks of preseason, which is normal for any player returning after several months out,” he explained.
Isak Nearing Full Fitness, Gravenberch And Konaté Return, Alisson Still Out
“Fitness-wise, I think he’s now close to the level he should be,” Slot continued during Friday’s press conference at Kirkby.
“He’s played 70, 80, 90 minutes in recent matches, so I’d say his preseason might be over for good now.”
The Dutch boss also provided updates on several key players ahead of Sunday’s Premier League showdown against Manchester United at Anfield.
Ryan Gravenberch is fit despite a hamstring scare, while Ibrahima Konaté has resumed full training after a minor quad problem.
However, Slot confirmed that first-choice goalkeeper Alisson remains unavailable and is expected to miss upcoming fixtures against Frankfurt and Brentford.
He added: “It’s hard to predict his recovery, but Alisson won’t play this weekend or next week either.”
