Liverpool have reportedly made ‘contact’ to sign Borussia Dortmund player Nico Schlotterbeck during the forthcoming winter transfer window, according to German outlet Bild.
The 25-year-old rose to prominence after impressive performances for Freiburg, encouraging BVB to re-sign him in 2022.
Since transferring to Signal Iduna Park, Schlotterbeck has established himself as an uncontested starter. He has struggled with injuries in recent months, but he is currently recovering.
After demonstrating his abilities at club level, the defender has earned a position in the Germany national team’s starting lineup.
Bild reports that Schlotterbeck’s current contract is slated to expire in 2027, and Dortmund is eager to extend it until 2030. However, the athlete does not want to commit his long-term future to Nico Kovac’s team right away because he wants to win major titles.
Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich are all interested in signing him, but Liverpool is prepared to launch a ‘attack’ to win the race.

Ibrahima Konate’s future remains uncertain, as his current contract expires next year. Liverpool, on the other hand, are eager to strengthen their defence by acquiring Schlotterbeck in January, after Giovanni Leoni suffered a season-ending knee injury. They see him as a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk, who will turn 35 next year.

The Merseyside club has even made ‘communication’ with the player’s representation about the transfer; nevertheless, Dortmund has no intention of parting ways with him in the middle of the season.
Schlotterbeck, 6ft 3in tall, is a technically adept left-footed centre-back. He is highly comfortable playing out of the back, is strong in the air, has a keen eye for long-range passes, and makes valuable defensive contributions.
The German, estimated at roughly £35 million by Transfermarkt, is a top-tier player with the skills required to thrive in Arne Slot’s possession-based system. As a result, if Liverpool does sign him, he would be a fantastic acquisition.
However, it would be intriguing to see if the Liverpool club can eventually capture his services during the forthcoming January transfer window.
