Former Barcelona defender Inigo Martinez has cautioned that the 18-year-old may not yet understand the immense weight he carries at the club.

Martinez, who joined Barcelona in 2023 and acted as a mentor, described his close bond with Yamal during the team’s treble-winning season.
He revealed that Yamal viewed him as a “father figure” in the dressing room amid the intense spotlight surrounding the La Masia graduate.
Speaking to Cope, Martinez said: “He doesn’t realise the burden he’s carrying. The day he does, it’ll weigh heavily.”
