Since the move, several Bayern officials have expressed frustration, including club legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who claimed Wirtz made the wrong career choice.
Rummenigge told Sport Bild that the German star “would have been better off” at Bayern than at Liverpool, drawing wide attention online.
German National Team Fires Back
However, Germany’s national team managing director, Andreas Rettig, has now mocked Bayern’s bitterness over Wirtz’s decision.
He jokingly said he could “understand the pain” of missing out on one of Germany’s best players but insisted Wirtz would thrive in England.
Rettig added, “Florian will prevail at Liverpool — there’s no debate about that. He’s a world-class talent.”
German sporting director Rudi Völler also defended Wirtz, highlighting that adaptation to the Premier League simply takes time, reports Mirror.
Völler noted Wirtz’s tireless work rate and professionalism, saying he just needs “weeks and months” to settle into Liverpool’s system.
Despite a slow start, Wirtz remains central to Liverpool’s long-term plans under Arne Slot.
With Germany’s full support and growing confidence, the midfielder is expected to silence critics and showcase his true quality soon.
