Former World Cup Star Arrested On Suspicion Of Child Sex Abuse

Omar Bravo, a legendary football player for Mexico, has reportedly been arrested in his country on accusations of child sex abuse.

The 45-year-old former striker, who made 66 appearances for Mexico and participated in the 2006 World Cup, is accused of repeatedly abusing a juvenile girl in recent months.

According to the Daily Mail, in a statement to the Associated Press, the state prosecutors in Jalisco expressed concern that Bravo might have “committed similar acts before.”

He is anticipated to appear in court shortly after being detained during an operation in the city of Zapopan, close to his old club Guadalajara. The inquiry by the prosecutor is still in progress.

The striker scored 15 goals for Mexico over a ten-year span after being called up to the national squad in 2003 due to his impressive performances at club level.

He was a member of Mexico’s team at the time for both the 2004 Olympics in Athens and the World Cup in Germany two years later.

In the later years of his career, he had enjoyable stints in the MLS with Sporting Kansas City, North Carolina, Phoenix Rising, and Arizona Monsoon.

Bravo eventually retired from the game in Arizona in 2020 before managing the team for a short period last year.
