Chelsea Star Set To Miss Brighton Matchup As Premier League Rule Enforced

Chelsea midfielder, Facundo Buonanotte will not be included in Enzo Maresca’s team this weekend despite his excellent display in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup victory against Lincoln.

On Saturday, the Blues will play Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

Before that match, Enzo Maresca was focused on the Carabao Cup, where Tyrique George and Buonanotte pulled off an incredible comeback after Rob Street’s first-half goal had given the League One team the lead.

Assessing his performance against Lincoln, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca observed: “Yeah, Buonanotte was very good. I think first-half, we all struggled a little bit, second-half I think we were much, much better”, reports The Mirror.

Despite his impressive performance, Buonanotte will not play for the Blues this weekend.

This is related to Chelsea’s matchup with his parent club, Brighton given that Premier League loan rules prevent players from playing against their contracted team.

FA regulations stipulate a player “cannot play in a competition match against their parent club” in the FA Cup, whilst the Premier League handbook confirms that “during the period of the temporary transfer… a player shall not play against the transfer or club.”

Interestingly, the League Cup has no such restrictions, so if Chelsea and Brighton faced up later in the campaign, Buonanotte would face his parent club.

On Tuesday night, Brighton defeated Barnsley of League One to move to the fourth round.

Considering Cole Palmer’s persistent fitness issues, Buonanotte’s absence is probably going to provide Maresca a selection conundrum.
