Tottenham ‘Seriously Considering’ Signing Julian Brandt

Tottenham Hotspur are’seriously considering’ signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt, according to Spanish source Fichajes.

Following James Maddison’s catastrophic knee injury, the Lilywhites chose to strengthen their creative midfield department this summer. They initially wanted to acquire Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest; but, after failing to gain his services, they moved their emphasis to Eberechi Eze.

Spurs were reportedly on the verge of signing him, but Arsenal stepped in and hijacked the deal. The former Crystal Palace star is a lifelong Arsenal fan, so he decided to relocate to the Emirates Stadium.

Tottenham eventually signed Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig. Chelsea were extensively linked with a transfer for him, but Thomas Frank’s team outperformed their city rivals.

Nonetheless, Fichajes claims that Tottenham are ‘seriously contemplating’ signing another new No. 10, with Brandt on their radar. The German is entering the final year of his current contract at Signal Iduna Park, and Spurs are trying to sign him in a cheap deal during the winter window.

Brandt to Tottenham

Given that he is nearing the end of his current contract, Tottenham can work out a pre-contract agreement with him in the winter window to sign him for free next summer.

However, Dortmund is willing to sell him in January to avoid losing him for free next summer, as he has fallen down the pecking order, starting only once this season.

Brandt is a versatile player who, although being a natural No.10, is equally at home on the sides. He is technically sound, can make threading passes between the lines, and is effective at creating opportunities for the forwards.

The midfielder, who Transfermarkt values at roughly £22 million, is a very talented and experienced player who, if signed, might be a wise addition to Tottenham’s roster.

However, it would be intriguing to see if the North London club decides to make a real push to obtain his services this January.
