Mohamed Salah ‘Will Be Furious’ As Arne Slot Handed £100M Verdict On Star

Liverpool were allowed to revel in their Merseyside derby victory for most of the weekend after securing a 2-1 win over Everton on Saturday. Goals by Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike ensured the Reds continued their perfect start to the season and secured bragging rights till the next derby day.

Arne Slot’s side had to work hard for the three points, though, after Idrissa Gueye equalised at Anfield and Jack Grealish attempted to help Everton equalise. Despite a hard-fought victory over Atletico Madrid in midweek, Liverpool was able to avoid late twists and keep their perfect record intact.

The reigning Premier League winners remain clear at the top of the standings, despite manager Slot’s ongoing efforts to maximize the performance of several of his summer additions. Alexander Isak made his league debut for the Reds as a second-half substitute, and the £125 million attacker hopes to quickly establish himself as a starter.

Wayne Rooney has suggested that Mohamed Salah may be unhappy with the attention accorded to Isak following his record-breaking deal from Newcastle United. Meanwhile, former Reds striker Michael Owen claims that midfielder Ryan Gravenberch’s value has increased while working for Slot.

The Reds will look to extend their winning streak when they play Southampton in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday. Mirror Football presents a roundup of Liverpool headlines.

Wayne Rooney makes Mohamed Salah claim

Rooney has stated that Salah will be upset that his reputation as Liverpool’s talisman may be jeopardised by Alexander Isak’s arrival on Merseyside. The 33-year-old scored an incredible 29 league goals as Liverpool won the Premier League last season and has six goal contributions in as many outings this season.

However, former Manchester United and Everton striker Rooney feels Salah may be upset with Isak’s ambition to become Liverpool’s new star player. The Swedish striker scored 27 goals for Newcastle in all competitions last season, prompting the Reds to spend a British record £125 million for him.

“Even though Salah has been the best player at Liverpool for years, he won’t be happy that Isak has come in and is getting the attention,” Rooney shared with BBC Radio 5 Live. “It is a matter of personal pride; he will strive to be the best.

“When we (Manchester United) signed [Carlos] Tevez, there were numerous reports that he and I would be unable to play together. But as soon as we signed guys, I used to say, ‘There’s no way he’s coming in to replace me.’ So it naturally gives you a boost.”
