Salah’s Problem With Ekitike On Full Display Against Atletico Madrid

Mohamed Salah’s admission that himself and Hugo Ekitike are still not playing in unison on the field was validated by latter’s stunning miss against Atletico Madrid.

In their first Champions League game of the season, the Reds defeated the Spanish powerhouses 3-2 in an exciting clash on Wednesday.

Andy Robertson and Salah’s early goals were nullified by a brace from Marcos Llorente, but captain Virgil van Dijk was the one who jumped to the top and headed a goal past Jan Oblak in the 92nd minute to secure the crucial victory at Anfield.

Ekitike Missed Golden Opportunity Against Atletico Madrid

Liverpool continued to try to score a fourth goal before the final whistle. Salah sprinted down the right side after Dominik Szoboszlai passed the ball to him, and he crossed it to Ekitike for a close finish.

The Frenchman’s attempt to slip the ball into the net appeared to be simple, but he fumbled the shot, sending it over the bar.

The missed chance does support Salah’s earlier acknowledgement that he and Ekitike haven’t yet reached a mutually beneficial understanding.

Although supporters may want to keep an eye on this relationship as the season goes on, it’s hardly a concern at this point considering the two have only started five games together.

“So far, I didn’t figure the connections out yet,” said the Liverpool talisman while speaking to the Men In Blazers.

“Like with Darwin or Lucho or the guys they used to play in front, or Diogo. I knew where to start with Diogo or Darwin. I know where to find them. I knew their game very well, but with Hugo, he’s still new. Sometimes I need the ball in the field. Sometimes we need it in the space.
